As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 160GB system features an IBM "Cell" processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 160GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy.

The Blu-ray disc is a medium that can store a hell of a lot of content. So much so, in fact, that game publishers are starting to include PlayStation 3-exclusive content to fill up all of that room. Thus, back in June, Electronic Arts promised that the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 would be bundled with Battlefield 1943. But now that Battlefield 3 is out, it's clear that that's not the case.

If you watched Sony's E3 press conference, you might've dismissed Dust 514 as just another Playstation 3 shooter among countless others. And that'd be too bad, because Dust 514's latest trailer doesn't do justice to the crazy ideas that CCP Games is trying to execute.
SEGA wants Rise of Nightmares to be Kinect's first adult game. I'd say it's more like Kinect's first comedy game. This is a horror-themed first-person beat 'em up that uses Microsoft's motion controller to put you in a dungeon full of zombie-like monsters. But the controls are so awkward and you look so goofy playing that myself and IGN PlayStation Executive Editor Greg Miller couldn't stop laughing while exploring the catacombs.
Publisher's executive vice president of marketing offers his take on Gearbox's new game, secondhand market, the six-week-long PlayStation Network outage, and Vita support.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is one of my favorite games ever, and I love portable gaming. Needless to say, the prospect of playing MGS3 on the go is something approaching my video game ideal, which means I was beside myself when Konami announced it would be porting Snake Eater to 3DS last year at E3. The non-interactive in-engine demo for the remake looked great and promised pure excellence. So why is the game such a dud now that it's playable?
At its E3 press conference yesterday, struggling electronics giant Sony apologized for recent blistering attacks against its online services and customer databases while launching a next-generation version of its popular PSP handheld video game system.
We're really, really sorry for the PlayStation Network outage, and thanks for sticking by us--the gist of Sony's E3 press conference intro, as Sony Computer Entertainment America president and CEO Jack Tretton took the stage to address "the elephant in the room."
During the original PlayStation era, I turned into a bit of a niche gamer. Having grown up with the NES, and later with the SNES, I played a smattering of different kinds of titles that essentially touched on every conceivable genre. But when the PlayStation rolled around, I was all about JRPGs. The PlayStation had a majority of the best JRPGs ever released, after all, and I couldn't help but spend all of my gaming time focusing on titles from Tales of Destiny to Wild Arms to Brave Fencer Musashi. It was an incredibly active time in my gaming career, but perhaps the most one-dimensional few years I experienced as a gamer as well.
I didn't think I'd enjoy the touch screen controls in the PlayStation Vita version Virtua Tennis 4 when I walked up to try it at Sony's E3 2011 Press Conference. I was ready to write them off as nothing more than a gimmick, but they're not. Well, at least not totally.

James Cameron's Aliens isn't just an inspiration for video games; it lies at the foundations of an entire species of game that have taken the 1986 action flick to heart, and its touch is felt far and wide. Team 17's 1991 Alien Breed, a top down shooter for the Amiga, was one of the first to explore this world of service tunnels and cold wet metal, and it remains one of the few games that nailed the blend of dread and gun-lust that helped make the film the ultimate thrill ride.
If you're going to be bumping around Dolores Street in San Francisco (as above) and want your brand-new PlayStation Vita to know about it, you're probably going to need to sign up for AT&T's 3G service after purchasing your system. AT&T hasn't spoken much about how much Vita 3G is going to cost yet, but over in Japan, provider NTT DoCoMo has set up a payment system designed to make the process as easy as possible, much more so than what consumers have to go through with cell phones.

ARM has come out and stated that its Mali GPU will be able to match the power of the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 within 18 months. They said that Moore's Law was not the only way to achieve this kind of leap in processing power, according to The Inquirer. There is little doubt that this will eventually happen, but in less than 18 months? We have heard this song from ARM before. A quick Google search pulls up results from Slashgear and the Bright Side of News. There is probably more to be found, if one does further searching.

The shut down of Sony's Playstation Network is approaching the three week mark and its becoming clear that the online PS3 console service's down time will cost Sony tons of money in both the short and long term. But it's not just Sony that's being affected. Other game publishers who use the network for things like online multiplayer services, downloadable content, demos and videos are also unable to use the service.

If you compare games on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 there is very little to choose between them now. The PS3 was notoriously difficult to squeeze performance out of when it first got released, not because it wasn't there, but because the system architecture made it so difficult to utilize. But developers have caught up and at the very least equalized the platforms.
