Apple recalls some 1 TB hard drives in iMacs
Apple has issued a recall of some of its hard drives that were put inside some of its iMac PCs. A page on Apple's web site has the details of the recall which affects iMacs that were sold between May and July of 2011. The hard drives that are affected are the 1 TB drives made by Seagate. The faulty drives were put into the 21.5 inch and 27 inch versions of the iMac PCs. According to News.com the drives could fail "under certain conditions" but there's no word on exactly what the issue is with these drives.

External Thunderbolt graphics card for Macs will not blow you away
Last week, as the result of a straw poll on Facebook, Village Instruments agreed to begin development of an external Thunderbolt-connected graphics card enclosure. Village Instruments already has experience with its ExpressCard-connected ViDock graphics card chassis, which provides extra GPU juice for Windows and Mac laptops, and the Thunderbolt version is expected to be the same kind of thing — but faster. This would be a Mac-exclusive until 2012 when Thunderbolt ports begin to appear in Windows-powered PCs.

Blu-ray playback comes to OS X
The ability to play Blu-ray movies in OS X has been a bit of a sore spot for Mac users. When Blu-ray was being developed, Apple's presence as a supporter of the technology spurred much speculation and rumor that Mac users would be seeing native Blu-ray support in OS X. Well, this is a surprise. Several websites have a preview up of Apple's next Mac OS X release - it's called Mountain Lion, and continues the trend of bringing over functionality from iOS to Mac OS X. Lots of cool stuff in here we've all seen before on iPhones and iPads, including one very, very controversial feature: Gatekeeper.

OS X Lion update kills Flash Player hardware acceleration and more
If you ran out and updated to Lion yesterday on your Mac you may be finding that a few things don't work like they did on Snow Leopard. Apparently, the update has disabled some of the features that Adobe Player had before like hardware acceleration. That loss will be noticed by Mac fans that try to play Flash content.

More respondents on Mac and Windows use security software, but the split remains polarized: 75 percent of Mac users don't, while 90 percent of their Windows counterparts do.
