How To Properly Get On And Off A Harley-Davidson
If you're a veteran Harley-Davidson rider, you may have gotten on and off your bike countless times, but have you ever stopped to wonder if you might be doing it the 'wrong' way? There's a real technique to the process, and while there is contradictory advice and not necessarily a single correct answer, it's important to be mindful about these processes. Harley-Davidsons are tough-looking machines, but safety remains paramount. Regarding a side from which to mount or dismount a motorcycle, there are two options: The low side, which is typically the left side (so named because it's the kickstand side and so the bike will be 'leaning' on it), or the high side, which is typically the right side.

They're lightweight, which makes them easier to maneuver at slow speeds, and power is limited, so you can only get yourself in so much trouble when you crack open the throttle. But a lot of beginner riders want to skip the 300cc class and go for something bigger. They want more power, more features, and they're willing to pay a little extra. And in that category, the Ninja 500 is a pretty strong choice for new riders.

We saw many of these clubs founded in that time period, such as the Hell's Angels, Bandidos, Outlaws, and the Pagans, who are known as the "big four" motorcycle clubs today. They follow strict rules, have a clear organizational structure, obey their own constitutions in some cases, and have a code of honor that is supposed to be unbreakable.

Not Harley-Davidson, Not Indian: This Is America's Oldest Motorcycle Brand

It usually comes down to a shoot-out between two venerable American legends: Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle (which Polaris just sold to Carolwood LP). Unless you're intimately familiar with the history of how all motorcycles first evolved from pedal-powered bicycles, chances are you'd guess Harley wins the battle due to the very nature of its popularity and status within American pop culture.

How Fast Is The Honda Grom, And Is It Highway Legal?
Being that the Honda Grom is considered a "minimoto," with its 12-inch wheels and a wet weight of just 224 pounds, top speed can vary based on the size of the rider. However, on a flat road, one rider weighing 195 pounds (including gear), and at 6 feet tall, was able to hit 60 mph on a stock Grom while sitting upright, and 61 mph while tucking down for better aerodynamics. Bear in mind, though, these speeds were achieved under ideal conditions, and can vary with factors like head winds or changes in the road's elevation.

Colorado is known as a haven for outdoorsy types, and its cycling scene is no exception. From the city streets of Denver to the high altitude grades of Vail, almost three quarters of Coloradans own a bicycle, and a quarter ride for more than a month each year. Why Do Bikers Rev Their Motorcycle Engines At Stop Lights?
Motorcyclists didn't start revving their engines at stoplights to show off, at least not originally. Before electronic fuel injection became standard, many bikes relied on carburetors to mix fuel and air. These systems could be temperamental when idling, especially at low RPMs, which could cause the engine to stall. Blipping the throttle (giving quick bursts of gas) helped keep the engine spinning fast enough to stay alive until the light turned green. Older racing engines also needed higher RPMs at idle to keep oil circulating and prevent lubrication issues.

Why Do Bikers Lean Sideways Around A Turn?
Motorcyclists aren't trying to earn style points when they lean into a curve in the road, nor are they showing off with some dangerous gravity-defying stunt. It's a safety measure, and it's an absolute must for bikers to maneuver corners properly. Unlike cars, it's not enough for motorcycles to just steer into a turn using the handlebars. At any speed faster than a crawl, a biker has to lean into a curve to make it around safely. The science is simple: This sideways lean effectively counteracts the powerful forces of gravity on both the rider and the bike itself. Without it, the motorcycle would likely crash.

What BSA Stands For: The History Behind The Motorcycle Company's Name
There are certain manufacturers that just love to make a noise. The unmistakable deep throaty growl of the classic Harley-Davidson sound springs to mind, as does the roar of an iconic V8 engine. BSA has been in the business of making noise since 1861, and — after a fifty-year hiatus — it appears the company has roared back into action. BSA might be famous as a historic name in motorcycles, but its history began not as a motorcycle manufacturer but as a supplier of firearms to the British Government. BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms.

Harley-Davidson Motorcycles: What PSI Should Your Tires Be?
Whether you prefer long-distance road trips or short city cruises, it's important to keep tabs on the condition of your motorcycle's tires. A key part of that is ensuring that your tires are always kept at the correct pressure. If they're under-inflated or over-inflated, you could end up with a more uncomfortable riding experience, as well as see premature tire wear and lower fuel efficiency.

2025 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Review: The Goldilocks Sportsbike
For me, there's always been something very Goldilocks and the Three Bears about 600cc sportbikes: they're just right in almost every way. They're lightweight enough to feel sharp and athletic around corners. They're powerful enough for the kind of outright speed you expect from a sportbike. They're reasonably priced, too, especially when you compare them to their 1,000cc siblings.

Motorcycle Lane Splitting versus Lane Filtering: What's The Difference?
Motorcycles are appealing for numerous reasons. Not only can they be exceptionally fuel-efficient compared to a car, but they can also be a really fun way to zip around town. Motorcycles' small sizes make them highly agile, especially in a dense, urban environment with lots of traffic. However, that same agility and versatility that so many motorcycle enthusiasts prize can also be a source of contention among other motorists and road users.

City traffic is a nightmare for most commuters, and regardless of how comfortable or luxurious your car is, ever-soaring fuel prices have turned daily driving into an expensive obligation. Let's be honest: Public transportation in big cities lacks its creature comforts, and if recent reports are anything to go by, more urbanites after 2020 shifted to more practical and efficient means like cycling or riding scooters or motorcycles.

Beyond the big touring bikes and rebel-styled softails (not to be confused with the hardtails), Harley-Davidson has owned or controlled several motorcycle brands that were very different from its core identity.

If more than six decades worth of cinematic adventures has taught us nothing else, it's that the only thing British super spy James Bond appreciates as much as a shaken martini, a finely tailored suit, and the company of a strong, beautiful woman, is a high-end automobile tricked out with a few fancy gadgets and gizmos. Of course, those vehicles tend to bear the badge of Aston Martin, which 007 has driven more than any other automobile brand during his big screen run. That is more than fitting given that Aston Martin is an English brand, and 007 is a distinctly British sort of secret agent.
