Your SSD May Be in the Wrong M.2 Slot — Here's How to Tell
One of the easiest mistakes to make when building or upgrading a PC is assuming that every M.2 slot on a motherboard is basically the same. After all, they all look nearly identical and take the same "gum stick-shaped" drives. Motherboard marketing pages love to list "4 x M.2" as though that number alone tells the whole story, but in practice, these slots can behave very differently.

SK hynix Begins Shipping 321-Layer QLC NAND cSSDs, Dell First Customer
SK hynix has started shipping its PQC21 cSSD, the first product built on its 321-layer QLC NAND flash technology. The product is available in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities, with Dell as the first customer starting this month. QLC (Quad-Level Cell) stores four bits per cell, which maximizes storage density per unit area but has historically come with a write performance penalty compared to TLC (Triple-Level Cell). SK hynix addresses that with SLC caching, frequently accessed data is written to faster SLC-mode regions first before being transferred to the QLC cells, smoothing out the performance gap for typical workloads.

The drive in question is the Exascend PE4 16 TB, currently shown at $15,935. While that figure will draw the most attention, the more important detail is what the product is actually offering: 16 TB of solid-state storage in a single M.2 slot, without needing a larger U.2 form factor, add-in card, or multiple drives to reach that capacity. That makes the PE4 an unusual product in the NVMe market.

Silicon Motion has announced the SM8008, a new PCIe Gen5 x4 NVMe SSD controller designed specifically for enterprise boot drives and other power-sensitive storage roles inside modern data centers. While high-capacity primary storage usually gets most of the attention, boot SSDs remain a required component in every server node. In hyperscale and AI infrastructure, that means operators may be deploying these devices in very large volumes, making power efficiency, predictable behavior, and security more relevant than ever.

Windows 11 Native NVMe Support Gives PCIe SSDs a Performance Lift
Windows 11 appears to gain a meaningful storage-side improvement from native NVMe support for PCIe SSDs, a feature Microsoft originally framed more prominently around Windows Server 2025. The change updates the Windows storage path by allowing NVMe drives to operate with less dependence on the older SCSI command translation layer, which had remained part of the storage stack despite the widespread adoption of modern solid-state storage. That legacy layer has long been one of the less visible inefficiencies in Windows storage handling. SCSI traces its roots back to a much older generation of hardware, and while it remained useful as a broad compatibility layer, it was never designed around the parallel, low-latency behavior of NVMe flash storage.

Blu-ray launched with 25 GB as its initial storage capacity, about six times that of a DVD, later versions of Blu-ray would come with 50 GB in dual-layer types, and lesser known novel formats such as BDXL would double that to 100 GB. This was the first media to enable high definition home video distribution.

Do You Still Have To 'Safely' Remove Flash/USB Drives In 2025?
A USB flash drive is a reliable way to transfer files between PCs, back up important data, or even test out different operating systems. While most USB flash drives can last over a decade, their lifespan largely depends on how you use them. One common tip for keeping your data safe is to always eject the drive before unplugging it. This prepares the drive for removal by making sure all data is written properly and no file operations are in progress.

HDD versus SSD: Key Differences and Which One is Right for You
Imagine this: you're working on an important project, and your computer suddenly slows to a crawl. Files take forever to open, applications lag, and frustration mounts. The culprit? Your storage drive. Whether you realize it or not, the type of hard drive in your device plays a critical role in its overall performance. From the lightning-fast responsiveness of Solid State Drives (SSDs) to the high-capacity affordability of Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), these storage solutions are the unsung heroes—or villains—of modern technology.

The USB Flash Drive Designed To Self Destruct
Flash drives are some of the handiest little devices one can buy. Sometimes, moving files requires an intermediary, and this is where USB drives shine. They come in different storage sizes, with different capabilities, and, as it turns out, flash drives can be used for far more than just moving files around. Regardless of their specifics, generally, it's desired that these mobile storage options are sturdy, dependable, and capable of holding onto all kinds of data for future use.

Petabyte-Class E2 SSDs Poised to Disrupt Warm Data Storage
Once reserved primarily for archival use, large-scale data lakes are now asked to support increasingly active workloads. New AI applications, analytics pipelines, and emerging digital services are driving up the "temperature" of previously considered cold data. The result is a growing middle ground, where data is accessed too frequently for HDDs to handle efficiently, but not hot enough to warrant the cost of performance SSDs. E2 is a new flash form factor to address this emerging "warm" storage tier.

Is Microsoft OneDrive A Good Alternative To Google Drive?
The benefits of using cloud storage over local storage are significant. For starters, you can get to your files from just about anywhere. And as long as you've set up account recovery, there's little chance of losing them. But which cloud service should you use? While there are plenty of reliable options out there, Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive are two of the most popular. That's mostly because of their reliability and wide range of features.

Seagate BarraCuda 20TB 7200 CMR hard disk is cheapest, great for backup and more
Paying $230 for a 20 TB HDD means that you will be paying ~$11.5 per TB which makes it a very enticing deal. Even though this is a BarraCuda-branded model, which is typically associated with entry-level models, this 20 TB SKU is based on CMR or Conventional Magnetic Recording technology. That means the disk can be used for some good amount of robust heavy duty usage too unlike SMR or Shingled Magnetic Recording variants.
